Eighth-grade students from North Middle School visited the John F. Kennedy School on Jan. 31 to deliver fleece hats that the middle school students made for kindergartners.

More than a dozen eighth graders made the trip to the Kennedy School to deliver more than 60 fleece hats—one for every kindergarten student. The hats were made by students enrolled in the Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) program at North Middle.

During their visit to deliver the cold-weather accessories, the eighth graders also participated in a literacy activity and read books aloud for their kindergarten friends.

North Middle students created an additional 90 fleece hats to be donated to The INN, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that provides essential services for Long Islanders challenged by hunger, homelessness, and poverty.

The fleece hats were created under the direction of Lauren Neckin, FACS department chair at North Middle.
