Elmont Memorial High School’s Men of Elmont mentoring group visited the University of Connecticut and the ScHOLA2RS House led by Erik Hines on Oct. 20.
The ScHOLA2RS House is a learning community designed to support the scholastic efforts of male students who identify as African-American/Black through academic and social-emotional support, access to research opportunities and professional development.
The Men of Elmont listened to presentations from the ScHOLA2RS House
members, received a tour of the dormitory facilities, checked out the unique makerspace available to the house members and participated in a group discussion regarding the “ins” and “outs” of preparing for, applying to and being successful in college. The Men of Elmont also received an official University of Connecticut tour given by the visitors’ center, where they learned more about the university and what college life would be like.
