The opinion column written by George Marlin and published in this paper on March 31, falsely claims that a critical audit of Friends of Nassau County Recreation was deliberately concealed from the Nassau County District Attorney by me, as Nassau County Comptroller.
Mr. Marlin falsely alleges that the audit was hidden on the direction of others, out of fear of being a “whistle blower” or “incompetence.”
Mr. Marlin is categorically wrong in all regards. He has fabricated this falsehood in order to perpetuate an unfounded and libelous allegation that misinforms the readers and serves no valid purpose other than to advance his own personal agenda.
Had he checked the facts, Mr. Marlin would have discovered that my office had indeed sent the audit of Friends of Nassau County Recreation to the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office immediately upon its release on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at 10:41 a.m.
This occurred in accordance with standard protocol, consistent with the release of all audits issued by the Comptroller’s Office, and exactly in the manner that Mr. Marlin erroneously alleges that I did not do.
Furthermore, this audit, as with every audit, is conspicuously posted on the Comptroller’s Office website for all to see, including Mr. Marlin.
