Manhasset Valley Park will receive funding as part of the Heart Your Park initiative, a joint venture by the National Recreation and Park Association and Macy’s department stores’ Secret Garden campaign dedicated to the advancement of recreational and environmental conservation, officials said.
Shoppers at the Macy’s at 1100 Northern Blvd. may donate $1 or more toward the program, which officials said would send 100 percent of the proceeds toward improvements to the park. The donation period began on Thursday and will continue through March 31.
“We are thrilled to partner with Macy’s and NRPA for ‘Heart Your Park’ this spring,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “We are excited about the increased awareness and additional funding for Manhasset Valley Park through this wonderful program and donations by Macy’s customers. This park is a great asset to the community, and we greatly appreciate Macy’s support.”
Macy’s will match each dollar donated up to $250,000 total, officials said. Approximately 550 parks across the country were selected for the program.
“We are thrilled to partner with Macy’s for Heart Your Park this spring to raise awareness of the importance of local parks in strengthening community health and wellness, and environmental conservation,” said Barbara Tulipane, the president and chief executive officer of the National Recreation and Park Association, in a statement. “Macy’s shares our passion for connecting and engaging local communities. We look forward to the positive impact this effort will have on community parks.”
The park was reconstructed in 2013 to include baseball and multi-purpose turf fields.
Officials said the funding would help maintain the park’s trails, playgrounds and ball fields.
“Manhasset Valley Park is such a wonderful facility utilized by so many children and young athletes in our Town,” said North Hempstead Councilwoman Anna Kaplan. “With this partnership, we now have the potential to add to and enhance the outstanding amenities this park already offers.”
Located in Northern Boulevard at the intersection of Shore Road, Manhasset Valley Park was reconstructed in 2013 and now includes two brand-new artificial turf fields, one of which is used for baseball. The other, a multi-purpose field, can be used for soccer and lacrosse. The multi-purpose field in the park was dedicated to football legend Jim Brown, who grew up in Manhasset.
